The current state and future prospects of operating unmanned aerial systems (UAS) for civil purposes, as well as safety issues related to the operation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), were discussed by participants of the roundtable "Unmanned Aerial Systems in Civil Aviation: Prospects, Challenges, and Regulation."

The event took place on July 10–11 under the chairmanship of Arzybek Kozhoshev, Minister for Energy and Infrastructure of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), at the EEC headquarters.

“In the context of global digitalization and growing demand for efficient logistics solutions, unmanned technologies offer new opportunities to enhance safety, reduce costs, and expand transportation functionality,” noted Arzybek Kozhoshev.

The event also included an exchange of experience and international practices related to the regulation of UAS operations under current conditions.

Topical issues and aspects of international regulation were presented by representatives of major international civil aviation organizations, including the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC), and the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

As a result of the event, a resolution was prepared with conclusions and recommendations regarding the harmonization of flight safety regulations, the role of digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, and other relevant aspects.

Conclusions:

The news highlights the need to create or adapt regulatory frameworks governing the use of unmanned aerial systems. One of the central focuses of the discussion was ensuring the safe operation of these systems in civil aviation. The EAEU is striving to keep pace with global trends, demonstrating its readiness to adopt advanced technologies and regulate their application at the union-wide level, rather than at the level of individual member states. This reflects a broader trend toward global integration of standards in civil aviation considering modern challenges and technological developments.
